The Urban Mermaid was a project designed to raise awareness about plastic pollution by Lindsey Cole. The goal was to swim the 120 miles of the River Thames in a mermaid tail collecting rubbish from the water as she swam. Her support canoe was manned by Barbara de Moubray and a giant mermaid sculpture named Samantha who was made from six hundred plastic bottles!
